The three musicians of Shisei met within the Muzzix collective, in the Circum Grand Orchestra more particularly.
This trio’s music, firmly contemporary, intends to combine the complexity and richness of the rythmic vocabulary developped by the M’Base collective and its european evolutions with the more flowing sounds and freedom as of Thomas Chapin or Henry Threadgill. The challenge lies in reconciling the rythmic colemanian strictness with the « new thing » sound. « Shisei » is a japanese notion wich could be translated as « fair attitude »… a position that enables a complete freedom of action, body and mind being available to adapt any kind of situation.
