WABLA : « We Are Bodies Listening in Action », gathering listeners and sound actors in a space of time, inseparably complementing one another in the listening of the world.
By dismantling his trombon, blowing in it upside-down, connecting pipes or balloons to it, Thierry Madiot actually invented a new instrument. Very simple seemingly, the « Ziph » horn is only made of 3 elements. A plastic roll constitutes a one to twenty meters horn, which provides the amplification and the harmonics. A ring maintains the balloon open, as a double reed (oboes) or a simple one (clarinette). Then all gets more complicated, because of the balloon’s possible change into a rope-pipe...
Ziph is named after a 12 musicians orchestra who released the eponymous disc in 2011. After this first project, based on the musicians’ breath, here is Wabla. With an air compressor, true lung of steel, Wabla makes sound not only giant horns, but also some of the buildings pipes, following this way the sound exploration of a device that « clouds music between electro and acoustic ». Moving the pipes away from their lips, the musicians can so concentrate themselves on a more active listening.
